9 Tips For Hosting The Best Super Bowl Party

16
Thursday January 16th 2014

Believe it or not, there are some people who throw just one party a year. A Super Bowl party! I've found that these parties can be a lot of fun even if you aren't a fan of either of the teams competing for the trophy. Plus, sharing a few laughs and some delicious food with friends can be a great antidote for the winter blues. I thought I'd use this week's blog to offer some suggestions on how to make your Super Bowl party a roaring success!

Nine Tips for Hosting the Best Super Bowl Party

  1. Instead of sending your party invitations to friends via email, send traditional invitations by mail. Use your computer and printer to create some invitations featuring footballs, football fields, helmets, etc.
  2. Along with your famous chicken wings and pigs in a blanket, include some vegetarian dishes on your refreshment table. You may want to try a recipe for tomato salsa with a twist. This recipe replaces the traditional supply of tortilla chips with cucumbers! Jalapeno cornbread poppers, broccoli potato skins, and zucchini chips are just a few tasty examples of veggie dishes.
  3. Don't forget to decorate your powder room for your party guests. Get some hand towels that feature the logos of the teams playing in the Super Bowl. Also, hang a football poster on the door and put out a basket full of small soaps shaped like footballs.
  4. Create some special desserts for your refreshment table. Try making chocolate covered strawberries with a football theme. Whip up some "referee" pretzels by dipping pretzel sticks in white and dark chocolate. Cupcakes decorated to look like mini football fields are always a crowd pleaser!
  5. Decorate your TV room with a throw featuring a logo belonging to one of the teams in the game. Team hats, scarves, posters, footballs and shirts also add to the theme of the day.
  6. Ask guests to bring their favorite beverages so you will have a varied selection. Be sure to buy some of your own beverages in case guests bring the same kinds of beer, wine, soda, or other beverages.
  7. Give your refreshment table a football theme. Some clever ideas for decorating a snack table include putting labels on various items. For instance, stick a toothpick in each of your chicken wings with a label on it that reads, 'Touchdown!' The dip bowl can feature a label that reads, 'Ten Yard Penalty for Double Dipping!' You can either make handwritten labels or print some off your computer. Napkins, cups and plates should also display a football theme.
  8. Choose some CDs to play for guests who arrive before the game starts. Playing songs with a sports theme is a fun idea. "Backfield in Motion" by Mel & Tim and "The Super Bowl Shuffle" by the Chicago Bears are two ideal choices. My personal favorite is "We Are the Champions" by Queen.
  9. Buy some to-go boxes to offer guests who want to take home some goodies. Decorate the boxes with team logos, goal posts, team names, and player names. You can use stickers, colored pencils, or markers. If you have children, I suggest that you enlist their help in decorating to-go boxes.

These ideas will help to make your Super Bowl party the highlight of the winter season. Cheers!-Sophie
