Your Guide to Throwing a Winter Wonderland Themed Event

Your Guide to Throwing a Winter Wonderland Themed Event

Just because the holidays are all behind us doesn’t mean that the celebrations have to end. There is still plenty of opportunity to throw a fabulous party with a winter wonderland theme! In fact, a carefully planned winter party can chase away the worst doldrums of the cold weather season. Take a look at some ideas for throwing a memorable event in the wintertime.

The Flowers

White flowers are a must-have for a party thrown in the winter. One fun idea is to put bouquets of white hydrangeas in vases. Be sure to mix in some blue hydrangeas just for some color. You can use simple glass vases or find some white vases as well as some blue ones to put on the tables at a dinner party or wedding reception. Arranging them around the room where a baby shower or birthday party is taking place is another option. If you love the sight of floating flowers, you may want to try floating several white chrysanthemums in a decorative bowl. Arranging pine cones and short pine tree branches on a refreshment table adds to the winter theme of a celebration. They have a lovely aroma that will please your guests.

The Décor

Going along with the white theme of a winter party, you may want to try hanging some white Chinese lanterns around your venue. Several strings of sparkling white lights can also dress up a room. Use white table cloths to cover dinner tables as well as the refreshment table. Floating silver and gold tea candles in small clear bowls of water serves as a finishing touch for any table. Hanging white rose balls is another way to add elegance to your gathering.

The Food

A party in the cold winter months is the perfect time to serve those warm or hot comfort foods to your guests. Creating a selection of dips is one easy idea. Two perennial favorites are hot spinach and artichoke dip as well as hot crab dips. Of course, a steaming pot of delicious fondue can quickly become the highlight of any winter wonderland theme party. There are a variety of soups and chili that can satisfy your guests’ craving for a warm dish on an evening when the temperature drops below zero. Your guests will remember these hot, delectable foods served at your party for days afterward.

The Drinks

A hot chocolate bar can be the hit of a winter wedding reception or other celebration. Start guests off with a choice of hot chocolate, then offer them whipped cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks and more to top off their mugs. Or, you may prefer to set up a coffee bar with all sorts of flavors for guests to consider. Hot cider punch featuring flavors such as apple, cranberry and pineapple is also a refreshing beverage. If you’re looking for adult beverages for your winter gathering, try serving mulled wine with cranberries, warm hazelnut toddies or hot buttered rum. These are all cold weather favorites.

The Entertainment

If you reserve a special room in a restaurant to throw a January birthday party for a friend, play some music with a winter theme. Some examples of songs include the classic, “Let It Snow” by Bing Crosby or “California Dreamin” by the Mamas and the Papas. “Sleigh Ride” composed by Leroy Anderson is a pleasant orchestral tune to play in the background of a winter party. For a more formal occasion such as a sit-down dinner at a wedding reception or an engagement party, you may want to hire a classical guitarist who plays wintertime favorites in a subtle, appealing way.

I hope these suggestions help you to build the perfect wintertime celebration. Enjoy the season. Cheers!-Sophie
