The 12 Best Plants To Clean The Air In Your Home

Photo via http://ow.ly/4XdS300hXbY

May is Clean Air Month. When most people think of air pollution, they immediately picture a factory blowing smoke miles into the sky above it. But did you know that indoor air pollution can be worse than outdoor air pollution? EPA research on this subject shows that the levels of pollutants indoors can be two to five or even up to 100 times higher than the pollutant levels found outdoors. Can you imagine the increased amount of airborne pollutants in a home after a long winter with the windows closed? This statistic led me to wonder what we can do to clean up the air in our homes. The answer is to get some plants that specialize in improving indoor air quality. Consider this list of plants that vary in how much light they need to flourish.

May's Birthflower: The Lily of the Valley

Photo via http://ow.ly/4nq91D

Lily of the valley is the official birth flower of May. This flower is one of my personal favorites. I attended a friend's wedding last spring and was so pleased to see this bloom included in the décor of the church. There were wreaths that featured lily of the valley hanging on each pew in the sanctuary. The fragrance was wonderful! So now, every time I smell a lily of the valley, I think of my friend's wedding ceremony. This unique flower has a history that is as interesting as its appearance. Check out what I found on this lovely flower of May. Enjoy!

We had a mild winter, which means we'll be dealing with a lot of mosquitoes this spring and summer. I don't know about you, but I seem to be a magnet for these yucky pests. I adore this purple bloom for two reasons. One, its fragrance attracts butterflies to my garden. Two, it's a natural mosquito repellent! Take a look at some other plants and flowers that will help to keep the mosquitoes away.

April's Birthflower: The Darling Daisy

Photo via http://ow.ly/10mb4C

I love to look at the yellow Gerbera daisies in my garden. They are so cheerful and bright. It's no wonder that the daisy is the official flower of the month of April. I have a friend who had a baby last week, and I took a vase of daisies to her in the hospital. She put them in the window of her room so she could admire them from her bed. I've found that daisies are right at home in almost any type of bouquet. Since April is the month for daisies, I thought I'd spend a little time focusing on this lovely bloom. Enjoy!

Most people understand the importance of eating fresh vegetables and fruits each day. Personally, I love eating cantaloupe for breakfast and a colorful broccoli salad for lunch. When you eat fresh fruits and veggies, you're getting calcium, fiber, amino acids, and proteins in their purest form. Vitamins can't always supply you with these and other important nutrients. Check out the benefits of vitamins you can get from your diet that contribute to a healthy body.
